that shut down interstate 40 joust outside oklahoma city. texas got a double dose of bad weather, a 25-year-old man was killed near houston after a tree fell on his pickup. snow covered the ground in long view and turned dallas into a winter wonderland and blizzard warnings stretched from arkansas to pennsylvania. turning to mobile, alabama, windows were shattered and cars tossed off streets as this tornado touched down. >> oh my god, we need to go. it's right there. >> that's scary. several buildings damaged and several car accidents were blamed on the storm but no reports of serious injuries. emergency management officials tell cnn power has been restored to many customers, just over 7,000 in the dark, down from 23,000 last night. we head to mobile, christina leavenworth of w.e.a.r. in just about an hour weather officials will assess damage. christina, what are you hearing so far? >> reporter: good morning, carol. we are seeing a lot of damage here and it's widespread. the national weather service is saying the tornado touched down in five different locations, one of them here at murphy h

of oklahoma city this morning. they say freezing rain is probably to blame for a chain reaction crash involving 20 vehicles. you see it there. including three big rigs. alexandra steele is the storm. >> take a look at this. severe weather is just beginning to ramp up today. we're looking at a whole day with severe weather. tornado watches you can see. look at this. i-10 right along the gulf coast, houston to new orleans. and this is just really the beginning of it. we're looking at incredibly severe weather. tornado watches and tornado warnings. tornado warnings meaning these storms have produced rotation and have been detected. you can see right there. so right now it's eastern texas moving into louisiana. kind of to give you a perspective, south of i-20 here is tyler, texas. here's shreveport, louisiana. all of these moving northeast and this is just the beginning of really what could be an inundation of severe weather today and really a rash of tornadoes which is really quite rare for christmas day. so here is a look from houston to new orleans the beginning of the day from now thr

the system. it sure has. scranton at 26. below freezing in new york city at 31. just to let you know, it's not over yet. a brand new storm system set up these winter weather advisories for pennsylvania and into new york, washington, d.c., and the mountains of virginia. you can see also ohio slammed again after so much snow from the first system. so the way it's going to play out, saturday into sunday, this system is likely going to bring heavier snow to areas of northern pennsylvania in terms of snowfall totals. it's not going to be as big of a snowmaker or a blizzard maker from what we saw last time, but it will produce strong snowfall through central connecticut and rhode island. new england, you know winters can be long. winter is not officially -- is officially here, we are looking at a slamming start to the season. across the southeast, temperatures are also very cold. we have not warmed up in atlanta. we're at 31 degrees. the moisture coming into the south will come in at a time where temperatures are likely to be milder. we are not looking at snow accumulation in the south if that

city as a republican and he was a frontrunner back in 2008, if you remember. before we went into the primaries and had such a disastrous campaign, he was a pro-choice candidate who was 22 points up among evangelicals because they saw him as such a strong and courageous leader and america's mayor. i think that there is room for that. i think those two candidates that you mentioned -- it wasn't so much their position on abortion or being pro-life per se. it was one had a much more extreme position and the other one was just sort of medieval. he had this really bizarre idea about women. i don't even want to get into it. it was ridiculous. and as you saw, the gop absolutely denounced his views on that. >> let me very quickly let maria weigh in here and give you the final word. >> well, so i agree with amy that the gop should get credit for the diversity that they have in governorships, but it's not enough. because leadership positions do actually happen to be very important in congress where you actually pass bills that are going to affect what the changing demographics of ameri

than 160 people and menaced a huge city for days. this one planned to target the american embassy in the capital of one of the u.s. allies in the middle east. now there's a plot to attack ayman, jordan. jordanian officials say it was first coordinated bombings at large shopping malls in ayman. almost simultaneously, machine gun and bomb attacks on cafe and hotels frequented by diplomats and tourists. with the city's police responding to those attacks, jordanian officials say the terrorists plan to launch the main assault on the u.s. embassy in amman. it's one of america's biggest embassies in the world. tom sanderson says the motivation for the attack was to show p capability. >> to inflict damage on the united states, inflict damage, physical and reputational, on the jordanian government in an environment in which all other governments are certainly dealing with their own difficulties right now. >> reporter: all 11 suspects were rounded up by jordanian security forces in mid october. jordanian officials say they'd planned to strike on november 9th, the seventh anniversary of the

seen in the last few days? in a six-day total almost two feet of rain at mount sast ta. sterling city, 21 inches of rainfall. sims, california, 17.9. this is tremendous rainfall for a nontropical area. it has a tropical connection, because it's coming from the direction of hawaii, but still a mid and northern latitude situation. seattle and portland seeing some rain, snow at the higher elevations. if anything is a saving grace, it's a little cooler this go-around, so some of the moisture getting locked up in higher elevations in the form of snow. most of that is well north of san francisco and napa valley. this will sink further south, we'll get another piece of energy later on today that will spin up across the bay area and intensify the rainfall. that's what we will be watching closely. our computer models highlight that. one pulse to the north. another one fills in further to the south. it shouldn't be nearly what we saw last week. the ground is saturated. rivers are swollen. it won't take much to get more in the way of flooding. once we get past that, we are looking at a fairly dr

battles across syria. we're also learning about a car bombing in the city of homs and a horrible, horrible discovery. dozens of bodies believed to be victims of a massacre. the same time rebel fighters, they are taking on syrian forces literally house to house in the country's largest city. that is aleppo, and that is where we find our arwa damon today. >> reporter: for two months the streets here have been a war zone. part of a bigger battle for control of aleppo, syria's largest city. this father of four is one of the rebel fighters here. this is our country, our homes that are being destroyed, he tells us. he used to sell thread. now he runs logistics for his unit. so what he is explaining to us is that this was street to street fighting, and it took his unit quite some time to advance and right now they have the tractor here because they're trying to clear out this road so that ambulances and vehicles can begin to move through. >> blankets hang across one alleyway to block government snipers' line of sight. the shooting is coming from there, the sniper, one of the fighters points out.

. for the most part it is peaceful and tension outside his house in a city outside of cairo, but, deb, we want to pass along some new information that we just confirmed and we're not sure what this means in the grand scheme of things. but the president's adviser has announced that the vote for the constitution for expats, egyptians living outside of egypt, that was sketcheduled fo tomorrow, it is postponed until tuesday. the opposition factions, mr. morsi's critics want the vote for next saturday, taking place here in egypt. that's the referendum on the constitution, they want that to be canceled. that hasn't happened yet. that's why they're out here protesting again. and also rejecting the president's speech from last night, a lot of people -- anxious to see what the president would say, if he can resolve this conflict, back down from his position. did not. what he did was call for calm, call for the political factions of the leaders to come to the palace tomorrow and meet. he also issued a stern warning to protesters not to resort to violence, but, again, he didn't back down from his core po

as jacintha saldanha, a 46-year-old mother of two. she was married from the english city of bristol but lived a short distance from here in the week where when she was working here at the edward vii hospital in central london in the staff quarters there. that's where her body was found. yeah, you're right. a lot of anger expressed on the social media about this. also a lot of sadness and sympathy being expressed with those associated with the death, first and foremost the duke and duchess of cambridge. they have issued a statement expressing their statement saying how wonderfully well in their words they were treated by the hospital staff during the time that katherine, the duchess of cambridge, was treated here for her very severe morning sickness. the hospital has come out as well, the management of the hospital saying that they are very regretful and sad about what happened and paying tribute to a nurse that was with them for the last four years and who they say treated hundreds of patients very well indeed. also, you mentioned the ceo of the company that owns that radio station in sydney
